Keeping a sucessful aquarium going takes a little bit of work and the Eclipse Hex 5 tries to make it as easy as possible for the new comer. However, while the tank looks pretty, it is way underpowered as an aquarium because of its small capacity.
Generally, to keep a tank healthy and all its inhabitants happy, you'll need a larger tank. The Hex 5, after you place all your gravel, plants and acessories in, you'll have closer to a 4 gallon tank, which by most standards, is too small and too dangerous to keep your fish healthy.
The tank doesn't do a very good job of filtration as your tank can suddenly become cloudy overnight because of overfeeding or water conditions going off the chart. This tank is made to give you the impression that you won't need to do much for it to work, but it is just the very opposite as you fight to keep the water clean, the quality of the water good and keeping your fish alive as well.
Besides this, the tank is made of plexiglass which scratches quite easily. In the long run, you'll end up thowing this tank away because of problems with the motor burning out, the poor health of the fish and the time you'll waste trying to get this aquarium to work properly.
As a side note, before Marineland took over the Eclipse line, the reviews were generally highly negative. It causes one to wonder why all of a sudden, all these glowing reviews have cropped up of late. |
