Went to the pet shop and bought this item. First it is rather clumsy to put together and take apart for cleaning and the "stem" seems like it would break easy. Second, as the previous review stated, if you don't top it off daily the unit becomes noisy. Third, my cat wouldn't go near it at first. I tried to outsmart the cat (not always that easy). Put the base down filled with water for a few days without it running or the dome attached. Let his normal water dish run dry and he "chose" the fountain on his own. After that added dome for a few days. Once I was sure he was ok with the unit I went ahead and plugged it in. He still ignores the water running off of the dome but does accept drinking from it. I must add that he drinks a LOT of water now, probably because it is always cool, fresh and clean. It is a good item if you are willing to keep it topped off with water 1-2 times a day and are willing to train your cat to use it. Just a note, my cat is 4 and was never a faucet drinker so the moving water is new to him, if that helps. **EDIT** To stop the noise buy the blue catit placemat. Since using the placemat the only noise I hear is the running water unless the unit is very low on water.   1     2     3   Non User
