Great litter box, hard to refill
|
This litter box is so great! I would have given it 5 stars, but the refills are not readily available, at least at any of the places I have looked, and are expensive to order online. But I did figure out a way to get around that. I purchased inexpensive cat pan liners that have elastic around the edge and attached it to the original tray that came with the litter box. Make sure to get large ones so that there is plenty of room and the grate won't catch the plastic, and that the flap with the metal pieces on it can still move up and down easily. Then I found an off brand of crystal cat litter (Mimi Litter) at Wal-mart, and filled it with four pounds of that. I switched on the grate to make sure it could still work with the liner, and it seemed to work fine. Even if your cats do scratch a hole through the liner, the tray is liquid-proof, so you can just clean it up with a paper towel and some antibacterial cleaner.
After figuring out a way to cut the cost of using this product and making it easier to use, I just love it. I have two cats, and both took to it right away. It's so easy - I just stir the litter around every few days and then change it out completely every ten days or so. I have to set a reminder so that I know how many days it's been. With my old litter box, there was always disgusting gray litter everywhere in my basement, and it didn't absorb the odor, which the crystal litter does. I was having to scoop every day or every other day, which I despise. Also, the purple and white box and the blue litter is just nicer to look at than gray clumps that stick to the side of the box. This is WAY better than any manual litter system I have ever used, and as long as it keeps working, I will be happy. |
